The Display Card
The QSecure Display Card is a battery-powered card that includes QSecure’s dynamic data methods to provide an authentication code each time the user presses a button. For e-commerce transactions the issuer can decide whether the card is used to generate dynamic CVV2, CSC2, CID, or 4DBC codes for conventional e-commerce transactions or One Time Passwords (OTPs) that work seamlessly within the 3-D Secure protocol.
The card issuer can also use one time passwords to provide authentication for on-line services such as home banking, online share trading, and online money transfer services.
Online fraud continues to be a significant issue for financial institutions. Two of the most common forms are:
- Card-Not-Present (CNP) fraud: occurs when a fraudster uses stolen card data to make purchases online, over the phone or via mail order.
- Account take-over fraud: occurs when a fraudster obtains a customer’s account access data and then uses this data to transfer money to other accounts.
These types of online fraud are enabled by the static nature of card and account data. The Display Card adds dynamic data to the process, allowing the issuer to authenticate the card, and thereby reduce the incidence of Card-Not-Present and account take-over fraud.
Issuers use the QSecure Display Card as a second factor of authentication (“something you have”) to provide access to online services such as home banking. When combined with a user name and password (“something you know”) the Display Card helps issuers meet the regulatory requirements of two-factor authentication for online financial transactions.
